Here you are browsing through yet ANOTHER health and fitness blog.
You are probably wondering what this page is reaaaally all about and how we are different than everything other site out there…
WELL, Fitness For Real People is about just that. REAL PEOPLE. People like YOU. Too often fitness and health is skewed when it comes to media.
We see instagram account after instagram account full of fitness models; marketing to people who are already super athletes or competitors. We hear one person after another trying to advertise the pills they took, tea they drank, or miracle way they “got fit fast”.
We see so many unrealistic images of “health” and fitness it could make a person’s head spin. I started Fitness For Real People for everyone like you and I. I didn’t see enough real people talking about their journey, the ups and downs. The real talk. I wanted something that didn’t make all the people like you and I feel defeated and frustrated. I wanted something to lift us up. Something to make everyone realize that they too can achieve whatever level of fitness they are reaching for.
That said… All you will find here is one basic chick on her own fitness, health, paleo, all-natural, organic, holistic wellness journey. One chick giving you advice about things she loves, she does, and she backs. I will NEVER promote a company whose products I do not use myself and I will NEVER lead you astray.
So who am I though and why am I giving you fitness and health advice?
Well for starters, my name is Kaitlyn.
I am the founder and fit foodie mind behind Fitness For Real People.
I am 28 years young. I am a Crossfit Level 1 Trainer.
For the majority of my young life, I struggled severely with body image issues. Like take the normal teenage girl insecurities and quadruple them. Yeah, that’s been me. I was self conscious 24/7, 110% of the time. I was unhappy and anxious about how I was viewed; feeling always inadequate. I battled disordered eating and body dysmorphia throughout high school and college. Going from that person who never ate, did ridiculous pure baby food diets, and struggled with shaming myself anytime I put anything in my mouth that I actually enjoyed to the overindulging, binge-drinking, then starving and extreme cardio-ing girl. This went on and on from about middle school age until just two years ago. Until I discovered the thing that would change my entire life and train of thought.
In March of 2013 I discovered my new addiction… Crossfit….
I began “drinking the Kool Aid” after years upon years of trying everything in the book to get “healthy”. After battling my way through absurd workouts, ridiiiculous diet after diet, eating disorders, and a neurotic body complex and weight obsession, I finally found what healthy really means…
I spent time being mentored by ex-competitive bodybuilder and certified holistic nutritionist, Elena Rotolo. I have been pushed and coached by some amazing people at multiple CrossFit locations. I have suffered some major health battles, an endometriosis diagnosis, and other setbacks… Through all of that I have come to the place I am now.
My work in mental health and background, including degrees in both psychology and sociology, enable me to motivate others to reach goals and change their lives in a variety of ways. I am currently working towards completing my certification in Sports Psychology as a way to help push both myself and my clients to the next level in their training. I want to use my own fitness journey along with the knowledge I am always hungrily acquiring to inspire and educate others to get the results they have been only fantasizing about.
But that’s enough about me…. Let’s get to work!
