A Tasty Little Secret: Hemp Hearts Review and Giveaway

Okay so if you are like me, you have never heart of hemp hearts before… Well not until now.

When I first read the term “hemp hearts” I will be honest I had no idea what to expect. On a basic level these are the raw shelled “heart” of the hemp seed. On a more complex level, these are SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST SEED INSIDES. They are heaven.

Upon initial glance of the bag I received from Manitoba Harvest, I was thinking chia/flax seed… Though I was sure the taste would be a bit different and therefore I was hesitant. I will be honest the bag sat on my counter for a good two weeks as I looked at it every day unsure what I wanted to do with it or how I would tackle trying it in a way that would really give me a feel for what these guys were. It is promoted to use hemp hearts as is by adding it to things like yogurt or smoothies or even eating them straight out of the bag! … Now upon initial use I was NOT that brave haha but after trying them I may actually get to that point… They are THAT good.

Unlike chia seeds, hemp hearts are not as tough and bally… They don’t feel like little seeds getting stuck in your teeth like when you eat an everything bagel lol… They also have a much more delightfully nutty taste. It was not expected but certainly loved. They remind me of pine nuts… Which may also be due to the fact that I just keep eating them on salad haha.

So yeah, the way I decided to first try these suckers was by sprinkling them on my salad. At first glance, it looked precious. I almost didn’t want to eat it, it just looked so perfect… And as Rachel Ray says, (I have been watching a lot of “Worst Cooks in America” lately hahaha) you eat with your eyes first. So in that respect, hemp hearts wins over chia or flax seeds any day of the week. If you want to beautify something while adding extra nutrients, these are certainly the way to go!

Down to the nutrition facts! Hemp Hearts has 10 grams of plant-based protein and 10 grams of Omegas; allowing them to beat out both chia and flax seeds in those departments. While they also win with less carbs than both those competing seeds as well! WAHOO.

Overall, hemp hearts have been a wonderful surprise addition to my pantry and food arsenal. I am loving them sprinkle on top of just about anything! But don’t just take my word for it…

Enter here to also win your chance at a FREE BAG of Hemp Hearts from Manitoba Harvest 😀 … Because I am just all about that free stuff lately 😉
